Information on the special issue

Cooperatives are unique organizations. This uniqueness is based on specific values and principles that make them play a decisive and differential role in the economic and social development of the territories where they are established. The proclamation of the year 2025 as the International Year of Cooperatives for the second time is based on this contribution, the first being in 2012, which means recognizing the unique contribution of the cooperative movement to address major changes in the social, economic and environmental fields both locally and globally.

The possibility of maximizing the transformative power of the cooperative movement will largely depend on its ability to face and overcome a series of challenges that will arise in the coming years, both at the macro level - related to global structural, political and economic conditions - and at the micro level, referring to internal management, democratic governance, organizational innovation and the sustainability of its practices.

In this context, this special issue of REVESCO. Revista de Estudios Cooeprativos is launched to invite international researchers and, in particular, participants of the ICA CCR Global Research Conferenceto be held in Montreal (Canada) from July 8-11, 2025 to submit proposals that address the challenges, transformations and opportunities that the cooperative movement will face in the coming years.

REVESCO. Revista de Estudios Cooperativos is a reference journal in the field of Social Economy being indexed by Clarivate Analytics (JCR Q3) and in Scopus (SJR, Q2). It publishes original scientific papers in its field of specialization with an anonymous peer review process. All proposals must comply with the publication rules that can be consulted at the following link (https:// revesco.es/normas_e.php) and be processed on the platform available at https://revesco.es/tramitacion.php.

Policy forum – Cooperatives and policy in 2025, United National Year of Cooperatives

We invite submissions on cooperatives and policy for a special policy forum to be prepared in 2025, the United Nations International Year of Cooperatives. The policy forum is open to two types of submissions: contributions reviewing policy in one of the global regions of cooperations; contributions on specific policy themes such as credit unions, agricultural policies, policies for sustainability transformation and coops and so forth.

We will prioritize submissions presented at the ICA CCR Global Research Conference 2025. The conference will bring together numerous stakeholders from the international cooperative ecosystem, including practicioners and policymakers. In addition to discussing the role of cooperatives in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals, the conference will also be a great opportunity to explore topics related to cooperation, including cooperative governance, business models, and education.

The Journal of Human Development and Capabilities: A Multi-Disciplinary Journal for People-Centered Development is the peer-reviewed journal of the Human Development and Capabilities Association. Launched in January 2000, the Journal aims to stimulate innovative thinking and promote a multidisciplinary debate on concepts, measurement, analysis, policy and practice for human development cutting across economic, social, political, institutional and environmental issues.

The Policy Forum of the journal seeks to bridge academia and policy. It intends to provide a platform to contribute towards policy solutions for real world human development challenges. Papers submitted for consideration to the Policy Forum should be between 2000 and 3500 words, with a maximum of one figure and 15 references (included in the word count). They must focus on, suggest or discuss policy recommendations, policy implications or policy evaluation. Selected suggestions for further reading can be included. Each submission will be peer reviewed by two external reviewers, with the final decision to publish being made by the Editor in Chief.

Deadline for submissions: 30 September 2025
